Dhaka, Feb 16 (Bangla2000) – A stormy batting by Bangladesh captain Nafis Iqbal helped the hosts to earn a record 345-run victory over Singapore in their second encounter of the GrameenPhone Under-17 Asia Cup Cricket Tournament here today (Friday). Singapore swallowed the humiliating defeat as they were bundled out for 32 runs in 17.3 overs in reply to Bangladesh’s huge 377 runs for 7 in the stipulated 45 overs riding Nafis’ 124 runs. Chasing the daunting task, Singapore lost their wickets like ninepins with five batsmen returning to the pavilion without any score and number seven batsman Shaun Krw was the only willow-holder who reached the double figure making 11 runs. Pacer Talha Zubair wrecked the top order taking three wickets in the fourth over of the innings and finished his bowling figure as a successful bowler for home side picking up four wickets for 18 runs in 6 overs. Promising pacer Mohammed Sharif cut off the tail claiming three wickets without costing any run. The Singaporean batsmen looked very shaky against the pace attacks while Bangladesh boys, looked sluggish in the first match, improved their fielding, especially wicket-keeper Hasibul Haque and Manzarul took two spectacular catches in the match. Singaporean fielders had a busy work at the Jaganath Hall cricket ground of Dhaka University to collect ball from outside the fence as the hosts batsmen struck 48 boundaries and 10 over boundaries to score the towering total after deciding to bat first. Hosts Bangladesh, who made an impressive start in the second version of the tournament with seven-wicket victory over Nepal in the inaugural match Thursday, will play their third match against Kuwait on Monday at the BKSP ground. Opener Nafis Iqbal led the home side to make an mammoth total playing a quick-fire 124 runs off 79 deliveries that belted thirteen fours and nine sixes before being bowled by Zeeshan and later he was adjudged man of the match by former Bangladesh captain Shafiqul Haq Hira. Nafis, the nephew of former Bangladesh captain Akram Khan, played 37 balls to complete his half-century while second fifty came from 59 deliveries. Shariful was the other notable contributor for home side as the number-six batsman remained unbeaten just three runs short of century. Shariful hit 16 boundaries facing 72 balls. Promising opener Mohammed Ashraful, who batted very well in the recently concluded national league to book seat in national side, was the first victim of lbw by Zeeshan with 22 runs off 35 balls. One down Saiful Alam, the hero of the first match, and number four batsman Zahurul Islam’s stay at the crease was short-lived as they returned to the pavilion with 12 and 10 respectively after being caught by skipper Iftekhar off Zeeshan. Zeeshan was the most successful bowler for Singapore claiming four wickets conceding 68 runs in his nine over spell while Ahmed Azizul captured three wickets for 40 runs in 4 overs. Zunaed made fiery 35 runs off 32 balls with five hits across the rope while Hasibul Haq added 25 runs off 19 deliveries with four hits to the fence.
